Flow

When I surf and paint I lose track of space and time, I enter a flow state. Inspired by the challenges of surfing, the admiration of the craftsmanship of shaping surfboards and the quest for happiness, FLOW is a series of work that savors my experiences of painting and surfing.

The murals transform the white walls of the gallery into an organic ocean environment. The minimal style panels depicting surfboards distill the craft of shaping into its essence as a painting. The resin treatment of each birch panel represents the process of fabricating a surfboard.

FLOW is the merging of action and awareness, the organic form of mural art merging with the hard lines of minimalism, and an intense and focused concentration on the present moment. “When you think about it, the present moment is all we are really guaranteed.” (Sonja Lyubomirsky).

Diana DeAugustine

(Waves and Sun wall murals and minimalist surfboard paintings)

Diana DeAugustine lives and works in San Diego, California. Her artistic practice focuses on the hybrid art form of tattooing and painting with the intent to move fluidly between both mediums. Her intent is to create an interesting dialogue about the birch panel as skin. Currently she is interested in exploring the minimal essence of the surfboard and metaphorical images about the ephemeral experiences in life.
